3309 Pre-test Thermal Stress Analysis of Arc-heated Wind Tunnel Test Specimens made of UHTC
Details
Arc-heated wind tunnel tests for ZrB_2 specimens are under planning. These specimens have semi cylindrical shapes simulating sharp leading edges needed for future reentry vehicles. Pre-test thermal stress analysis is conducted for them. Maximum stresses increase as the heat rate rising gets steeper. Maximum stress occurring at the side surface edge can exceed the material strength.
