4028 Vibrations of a Flexible Vertical Shaft

This paper describes experimental results of friction induced vibrations of flexible vertical shaft. The rotating vertical shaft is supported at an intermediate position. In this study, backward whirling motion of the shaft is observed. From frequencies analysis dominant frequencies of the observed vibrations are natural frequencies of the flexible shaft. The vibrations occur only in the range natural frequency increases, as the span of support increases.
