Abstract
Fatigue tests have been conducted to investigate the influence of non-diffusive hydrogen on the fatigue crack initiation and propagation for a cold drawn eutectoid steel specimen having an artificial small notch machined by Focused Ion Beam (FIB). In the case of smooth samples where the fatigue crack was initiated at internal inclusion, non-diffusive hydrogen caused a decrease in fatigue strength. However, for the notched samples where the crack was initiated at a notch, non-diffusive hydrogen had no influence on the fatigue strength, and this result was different from smooth samples where the fatigue crack was initiated at internal inclusion.
