Abstract
Metallic hollow sphere structure (MHS structure) is one of ultra-light porous metals. The ultra-light structure has a possibility to save the fuel consumption because car body can be lightened without reducing the rigidity and the performance of absorbing collision energy. The energy absorption of the structure is influenced by the diameter and thickness of the hollow spheres and the material. Since MHS structure is an assembly of the same hollow spheres and comparatively homogeneous, its mechanical properties may be predicted easily from the deformation behaviour of unit cell model by CAE. However, material parameters which are required in the analysis cannot be obtained because of the working history of structures. In this study, the way of obtaining the material parameters from the compression test of a single sphere is proposed.
