Abstract
A soft tube is often used for Percutaneous Cardiopulmonary Support System (PCPS). The water hammer can be occurred in the tube due to easy refraction of the tube. The water hammer can cause hemolysis and bubble generation, and therefore the effect of water hammer on blood and blood pump was studied. There were no large differences in pressure fluctuation among test pumps. However, the water hummer causes pressure range from -200 to 300mmHg in extracorporeal circulation, and can affect a blood pump and other medical device.
