Abstract

In this study, we determined the optimal shape of the circulation path of the end cap for minimizing the driving torque, vibration, and noise of a linear guide. We investigated how these parameters varied when the radius curvature of the circulation path was modified. The following points were found. (1) Low noise levels were achieved when a large hole diameter and a large curvature radius were used. (2) The average frictional force was low when a large hole diameter and a large radius of curvature were used. (3) However, when the hole diameter was increased, the average frictional force and the noise level became unstable. (4) Large amounts of noise are generated, as indicated by the graph of the noise, when the vibration level is also high at high frequencies. In summary, we found that to reduce noise, it is only necessary to reduce vibration.
