Abstract
The present study describes hardening of aluminum alloy by fine particle ejection technique. Various fine particles, steel, zirconia, fused silica and fly-ash were accelerated with pressurized gas and were collided to the target surface with various gas pressure and treatment time. Vickers hardness was measured on the surface with indentation loads 1 and 3mN, in order to investigate the distribution of the modified layer. The modified surface was analyzed with SEM/EDX. As results, it was confirmed that the significant increase of the hardness was obtained by the penetration and transfer of impact particles.
