Abstract

In this study, the effect of lubricating oil flow behavior of tapered roller bearing on friction torque have been investigated to improve fuel efficiency of vehicle. As the result, the effect of oil flow route through the bearing and oil flow control on friction torque of tapered roller bearing have been cleared. It has been found that the oil flow that moves from the inside to the outside thorough the cage in the bearing effect on the friction torque of tapered roller bearing. Both of agitating resistance and rolling resistance can be reduced by restricting oil flow into the clearance between the cage and the front face rib of the cone. It has been found that it is more effective for the reduction in agitating resistance to reduce oil stagnation by rapidly discharging the oil from inside the bearing.
