Abstract

In order to develop model blood accurately simulating hemorheological characteristics of actual human blood, we have been trying to produce model blood cells having the same size and elastic characteristics as real blood cell. An alginate gel was used as a material of the model blood cell, which was produced using EHD (Electro-hydrodynamics) spraying. In this study, we tried to produce finer size gel particles having sub-micro to several micrometer in diameter. The effect of the surface tension and the viscosity of alginate sodium solution on EHD atomizing mode and gel size were examined. As a result, some cone-jet atomizing mode was observed and smaller diameter gel was produced by reducing the surface tension and viscosity of the alginate sodium solution.
