Abstract
Two-dimensional mixed convective heat transfer in a bottom heated open cavity with grazing flow over the cavity mouth was studied numerically. A series of computations were conducted for Reynolds numbers less than or equal to 50 with Grashof numbers of 10, 2000 and 4000. The aspect ratio of the cavity was set at 1, and the ratio of heights between that of the duct and that of the cavity was set at 1. It has been found that the flow patterns are classified into two categories: flow without a separatrix and flow with a separatrix. The former appears when Grashof number is higher than a critical value with low Reynolds numbers, otherwise the latter appears. It has been also found that Nusselt number is higher in the flow without a separatrix than in the one with a separatrix.
