Abstract
A centrifugal compressor is one of key devices for low emission automobiles as well as a high-power engine, the requirements for which are higher pressure ratio and efficiency and wider operation range between surge and choke lines. The predictions of the internal flow around the impeller are essential for highly sophisticated design methods. It is rather difficult since it includes relatively moving walls and transonic flow with a possible separation of the flow. In this study, CFD analyses around the impeller in high-pressure ratio centrifugal compressor are conducted. The results are compared with experimental and computational results by H. Krain. Near the designed operation conditions, both the pressure ratio and the adiabatic efficiency show reasonable agreement with the experiment.
