Abstract

Roman Ruins of Perge in South Turkey was surveyed on August 21, 1998. Ancient Roman Technology was researched. Wheel ruts by Roman chariots were discovered at stone pavement of the main road. Measured gauges are 1440+10mm, and they nearly equal to present international standard railway gauge of 1,435mm (4 ft 8.5 in). It is thought that there is the origin of the railway gauge to the wheel rut of the Roman chariot.
