This paper describes a study on effects of case depth, face width, gear-side carburizing and interglanular oxidation on bending fatigue strength of case-carburized spur gears. Bending fatigue tests of case-carburized gears with different case depths, face widths, carburized parts and carburizing methods (gas and vacuum carburizing) were carried out, and then S-N curves were obtained. Effects of the case depth, the face width, the carburized part and the intergranular oxidation on the bending fatigue strength of case-carburized gears were examined.
