Diversifying the customers' needs, new manufacturing systems and new manufacturing management methods are proposed. But they are not introduced into the factories in real. In this paper we discuss the reasons that the newly proposed systems and methods are not used in the factories. And we discuss that "Design Support System for Manufacturing Systems (DSSMS) " is necessary for the introduction of the new systems and methods. On this report we discuss the functions that the Design Support System for Manufacturing Systems has to have. And we discuss the functional similarity and difference of the support system between the new design of manufacturing systems and the improvement design.
