Abstract
As the mixing of combustible streams with the ambient gases is known to alter stability and emission characteristics of the flame, experiments have been carried out with star shaped burners. Propane air flames in 0.5 to 2.4 of equivalences ratio φ show that the flame length is smaller with star-ports. For rich mixtures, the region of stability is wider, however it is narrower for lean mixtures compared to that for a circular burner. NOx emission is higher at φ>1 but marginally lower for φ<1.
