Abstract
A pulse laser has been used to generate the ultrasonic transients in laser ultrasonic nondestructive testing specimen. In this study, the surface of the transparent ceramic cylinder is painted with black paint of high optical-absorption coefficient in order to absorb the laser energy. The surface of the cylinder is impulsively heated by the laser pulse, and the generated ultrasonic transients are measured by the transducer which is installed on the other surface of the cylinder. The experimental results are compared with the numerical results which are obtained by the characteristic method.
