Abstract
There are numerous cases in which the external surfaces of cylinders such as towers, piping and storage tanks are partially corroded under their insulation. Therefore, load capacity of an internally pressurized cylinder with a local thin area subjected to external bending moment is needed to know. In this paper, the plastic collapse criterion of a cylinder with local thin area based on the reference stress is proposed. This method is validated by comparison with the experimental and FEA results.
