Abstract
In fretting fatigue, the stress state around the contact edge plays a vital role in reducing the fatigue strength of the components. These stress state depends on contact pressure, cyclic stress amplitude, contact pad geometry, relative slip, etc. Once the stress state around the contact edge is understood clearly, we will predict the fretting fatigue strength and life. In the present study the influence of stress state at the contact edge on fretting fatigue strength was studied by conducting the FF test with contact pads of different foot geometry. The stress distribution around the contact edge was evaluated by finite element analysis. The fretting fatigue strength design curves were proposed by combining the fretting fatigue experimental results and FEA results.
