Abstract
Fracture toughness and fatigue crack propagation (FCP) have been studied using compact tension (CT) specimens of as-cast and HIPed cast iron with spheroidal vanadium carbides (VCs) dispersed in martensitic matrix microstnicture. The Vickers hardness of the HIPed material was higher than that of the as-cast one due to lower retained austenite phase. The HIPed material exhibited lower fracture toughness than the as-cast material, while the intrinsic FCP resistances were nearly the same between those two materials.
