Abstract
High cycle fatigue tests with an axial loading were carried out on the extended aluminum alloy A7050-T7451 in order to investigate the Laser peening (LP) effects on the surface crack behaviors of smooth and notched specimens. The propagation rates of the surface cracks on the smooth specimens were reduced and the cracks from notched specimens were stopped temporarily by the LP treatment. From the results, it was clear that the LP treatment was very effective for controlling the surface crack propagation.
