Abstract
In this study, 3 types of specimens in which hardness was different were prepared to investigate the effect of super rapid tempering on mechanical properties. The mechanical properties of treated steels were characterized by tensile test and hardness test. The microstructure of fractured surface was observed by SEM. Test result showed that the tensile strength was not depend on tempering time when hardness of specimens were almost same. Comparing the results of rapid tempering and conventional tempering specimens, rapid tempering is effective to increase the elongation and reduction of area. SEM observation showed that the fine and well dispersed cementite particles was observed, when specimens was super rapidly tempered. Finally this paper proposed effective technique to improve mechanical properties of carbon steels.
