Abstract
Although many solutions of the stress intensity factor have been proposed these years, it is still necessary to improve the analysis accuracy for complicated stress distribution, such as residual stress, in order to evaluate the structural integrity of cracked components with high reliability. In this paper, a calculation method for the stress intensity factor with high accuracy and applicability was proposed by expressing the complicated stress distribution as segment-wise polynomial equations and calculating the stress intensity factor based on the universal weight function method. Some solutions using the proposed method were compared with the FEA results and it was concluded that this method is useful in engineering application.
