Abstract
The application of brush-like carbon nanotubes (CNTs) to twisted CNT yarns and CNT gecko-tapes are reviewed. These materials and devices consist of partially or fully bundled structure of CNTs. The twisted CNT yarns have been spun from the brush-like CNTs. They have a high strength more than 1 GPa caused by the surface roughness of CNTs, and their strength is comparable to that of commercially available high-strength yarns. The CNTs adhesive adhere strongly to surfaces as a gecko does. The number of CNT layers is an important determinant of the contact area for adhesion. The gecko-tape of CNTs with a broad distribution of layers exhibit enhanced shear strength with equivalent adhesive capability to that of a natural Tokay Gecko.
