Abstract
This paper deals with the investigation of deformation and oxygen diffusion behavior of PSZ-Ti composites during spark plasma sintering (SPS) process by a multi-physics simulation based on a finite element method. The deformation, temperature and oxygen diffusion in Ti and PSZ particles are analyzed, simultaneously. The simulation is carried out under the condition of compressive stress of 15MPa, heating rate of 100°C/min and sintering temperature of 1000℃. Oxygen diffusion behavior is evaluated under that the amount of oxygen release from PSZ is 20, 40, 60, 80, and 100%. The volume fraction of PSZ is set to be 12.5vol.% and 25vol.%. The temperature is elevated from 0℃ to 1000℃, and the deformation of Ti and PSZ particles and oxygen diffusion behavior are examined. The voids among particles shrink with increasing temperature. Oxygen diffuses from PSZ particle to Ti particles and then titanium oxide is created. The oxygen diffusion rate is extremely high and the oxygen distributes in Ti particles uniformly at early stage of holding process.
