Mechanical model for Vickers hardness of thermoplastic polymer injection molded products

Abstract

Surface hardness is a factor that controls the scratch resistance of thermoplastics. In this study, I focused on Vickers hardness, which is one of the surface hardness, and constructed its mechanical model. The validity of the model was verified by comparing it with the experimental results. From the obtained results, it was clarified that the Vickers hardness of injection-molded polypropylene has a correlation with the plane strain compressive yield stress based on the Tabor’s law.
