Abstract

WAAM (Wire and Arc-based Additive Manufacturing) is expected to have the advantage of being able to manufacture even large structures with high efficiency compared to the powder bed method. However, since the manufactured part is made of weld metal, measurement and control of residual stress is one of the important issues in improving the reliability of WAAM. In this study, we examined the application of the MIRS(Modified Internal Residual Stress)method, which can measure the internal residual stress, for two types of test materials with different lamination conditions. The results of data validation by strain gauge method and FEM analysis showed that the MIRS method is applicable to the measurement of residual stress in WAAM.
