Origami structures have been paid attention to realize energy absorption structures with load uniformity. Among the origami structures, Tachi-Miura polyhedron (TMP) based cellular structures have unique mechanical properties such as switchable load-bearing capability by transition between collapsible and load-bearing states. This paper investigates influence of graded thickness of panels on energy absorption performance of TMP-based cellular structures under load-bearing state. The cellular structures are fabricated by additive manufacturing as specimens of impact testing. As a result of the testing, graded thickness induced local buckling of the specimens, which prevent reduction of load caused by global buckling and enhance energy absorption. Therefore, the TMP-based cellular structures with graded thickness have potential to tailor energy absorption performance.
