Abstract
In this study, an effective turning method for manufacturing microshafts is investigated. The following two issues are proposed ; 1) the use of a cutting path in which the cutting resistance does not affect the production of microshafts during the turning operation, and 2) the use of an inclined ultrasonic vibration cutting method as the turning method, in which the cutting resistance can be effectively reduced. As a result of our experiments, we found that hardened die steel microshafts with a diameter of 50 μm and an aspect ratio of 100 and greater, can be fabricated by the proposed cutting method. Thus, it is clarified that the proposed turning method is effective for manufacturing microshafts.
