Abstract
In aspherical grinding using spherical wheel, whether the rotational direction of the workpiece and the cutting direction of the wheel are perpendicular or parallel at the grinding point have direct effects upon a generation of surface roughness. In the case of axisymmetric surface grinding, it is revealed that the parallel grinding generates finer surface than the cross grinding. This report deals with statistical approach in theoretical calculations of maximum height roughness of ground surfaces. The grinding results in parallel and cross grinding methods are compared and investigated theoretically and experimentally.
