Abstract
The in-process monitoring of cutting condition is essential to realize the automated and highly efficient machining process. In this study, we propose an approach to recognize the cutting condition from the power consumed change by the main spindle of machine tool. The vibration of cutting tool caused a periodical power consumed change in a grooving. In an end-surface preparation, up cutting and down cutting showed a different power consumed change. These facts indicate that the power consumed change by the main spindle could become a powerful indicator to recognize the cutting condition on real time.
