Abstract
Total biological activity measurement method through metabolic heat is referred as "Bio-calorimetry". We have developed batch-type and flow-type bio-calorimeter having MEMS thermopile sensors and multiple thermostat chambers. In the metabolic heat monitoring test of yeast cells using the batch-type, growth thermogram over several tens nW was measured. The batch-type has a weak point that signal cannot be obtained in the settling time of about 2 hours after beginning. Thus, fast response was required to the flow-type calorimeter as well as high sensitivity. Dilution tests of ethanol and NaCl aqueous solutions showed that the flow-type can monitor the thermal reaction immediately after the sample injection and has the settling time of about five minutes.
