Abstract
Characteristic features of AE and vibration techniques have been compared. Advantages and disadvantages to diagnosis of rolling bearings have also been discussed. AE technique is feasible to detect the failure at the beginning of occurrence while vibration technique evaluates the conditions of machine with bearings as a whole. AE technique has, in addition, a potential ability also to predict the fault location. AE changes in process of rolling contact failure, such as seizure by lack of lubrication, were measured and a practical technique for diagnosis is proposed.
