Abstract
This paper provides basic studies on a base isolated building with visco-elastic dampers to restrain displacement. First, we simulated earthquake response using analysis model of base isolated building, and obtained the relation between the response of a building and the displacement of the damper. Next, we carried out dynamic loading tests of a damper with forced out-of-plane displacements to investigate the changes of basic characteristics of the damper when the damper would be used at the base isolation. From the results of the experiments, it was verified that the equivalent stiffness and equivalent damping coefficient of the visco-elastic damper with forced out-of-plane displacements became larger than one without out-of-plane displacements.
