Abstract
This paper proposes a new method on how to absorb the vibration energy of a multi-degree-of-freedom structure by using an active mass damper operated by a position controller and neural oscillators. The previous system we proposed could reduce the vibration response of the first mode of the structure, however, could not control the multiple mode responses of the structure during an earthquake. To improve the performance of vibration mitigation, there is a need for multiple modes control and thus the system. This research addressed this need by developing a force controller with a neural oscillator to absorb the energy of the high-order-vibration-mode of the structure. The combined control force of the new proposed and previous systems is feed backed to the active mass damper. The result of numerical simulation showed us that the new system was able to control the vibration of not only one-mode frequencies but also second-mode frequencies of the structure.
