Abstract
Fretting fatigue crack initiate on very low stress level conditions and very early in the fretting fatigue life. So, the prediction of fretting fatigue crack initiation behavior is very important for estimating fretting fatigue strength. However as the stress and displacement fields near contact edges show singularity behavior, the fretting fatigue crack initiation estimation using maximum stress are generally.not valid. In previous paper the authors introduced a fretting, fatigue crack initiation estimation method using two stress singularity parameters H and λ which express stress distributions near a contact edge as follows σ(r) = H/r^λ where r is the distance from the contact edge. In this paper the authors apply this fretting fatigue crack initiation estimation method to fretting.strength improvement model with stress release slit. About twice improvement of fretting fatigue crack initiation strength can be confirmed by optimizing the shapes and positions of slits.
