Abstract
In order to make a product light, the use of aluminum as a material is increasing, and this tendency is thought to continues from now on. However, aluminum has the fault that the hardness is low and that the surface tends to get damaged compared with iron base material. In this study, surface modified layer was formed on the surface of aluminum alloy A5083 by irradiating YAG laser beam, after sticking iron, compound of iron and chromium, and nickel powder to the surface. As a result, the surface modified layer was formed, and the surface hardness improved. About the improvement in surface hardness, it has been understood that the effect of chromium and nickel was larger than that of iron.
