Abstract
The influence of press ram motion on forging performance of magnesium alloys was examined at elevated temperature by the upsettability test on a servo press. It is found that the forging limit of wrought AZ31B (Mg-3%Al-1%Zn) specimen with the deceleration press ram motion is 1.5 times higher than that without controlling the press ram motion. To explain the experimental results, the finite element analysis was carried out, and the influence of the press ram motion on the ductility of the specimen is discussed on the basis of strain localization.
