Abstract
Ceramic dies and molds are usually ground with micro diamond wheels trued carefully on the machine before grinding. Grinding wheel wear is high, however, making it difficult to maintain the wheel's original sharp edge and to machine the structured surface. In this study, micro milling tools made of Single crystalline diamond (SCD) have been developed to machine ceramic micro molds. Cutting edges are ground with diamond wheels. SCD milling tool wear is evaluated by cutting binder-less tungsten carbide molds and machining aspheric molds. From experimental results, it clarified that the tool wear decreased because the milling is interrupted cutting and surface roughness was 10-30nm Rz in aspheric cutting.
