Abstract
Because of the lack of ductility at the room temperature, titanium alloy and magnesium alloy are often formed at elevated temperature, but a furnace and special handling equipment are necessary. The situation is similar to that of the bending of sheet metal, and it is not easy to bend difficult-to-form materials. In order to get out of the situation, an idea using laser local heating was introduced, and the experimental trials were reported in recent years. In this study, the effects of the laser rapid heating on limit bending angle of brittle materials and bending load of high strength materials are examined experimentally. As a result, magnesium alloy and titanium alloy strip are successfully bent 90 degree using laser rapid local heating. And bending load of the stainless steel is reduced by 35.4 percent without local thinning.
