Abstract
Oxidation Induced Self-healing Ceramic (Oi-SHC) can improve brittleness due to self-healing and is expected apply to the high temperature use structural materials. Self-healing of Oi-SHC is induced by the oxidation of non-oxide self-healing agent, so that self-healing phenomena is strongly influenced by surrounding temperature. On the other hand, there is huge variety of high temperature structural material and each has own operation temperature. Therefore, eligible self-healing agent has to be prepared for each temperature region. In order to develop self-healing agent in a systematic way, the present authors established the two simple methodologies for evaluating ability of self-healing agent. One is methodology for estimating the lower limit temperature of self-healing and which derived from oxidation rate of self-healing agent. The other is methodology for estimating life time, and which is deducted from oxygen diffusion in the matrix.
