Abstract
In this study, Friction Stir Welding (FSW) known as a low heat input joining method was applied to plastic materials, and mechanical properties of the joining part was studied. In order to investigate effect of difference in physical properties of plastic materials on the mechanical properties of the joining part, high density polyethylene (HDPE), polyamide 6 (PA6) and polyvinyl chloride (PVC) were selected as materials used. Crystallinity and Young's modulus of joining part in each plastic material showed different value compared to those of base material. Tensile strength of the joining part in each plastic material decreased in comparison with that of the base material. It is considered that mechanical properties such as Young's modulus and tensile strength of the joining part changed due to change in physical properties such as crystallinity and molecular weight occurred during friction stirring process.
