Abstract

We have developed a novel method to estimate the support reaction in sandwich panels by the inverse analysis of the deformed shape data of the face sheet in order to clarify the deformation mechanism of sandwich panels. In this study, two types of sandwich panels which have foam core and honeycomb core were tested in two fixing methods. The result shows that estimated support reaction is divided into three regions where the estimated value is zero directly under the indenter, the estimated value gradually increases to the experimental value, and the estimated value agrees with the experimental value. The support reaction could be estimated even if the fixing method was changed. In addition, even if the core part is not homogeneous material, this method can be applied by considering the core part as a homogeneous material.
