Dynamic Vibration Analysis of Planetary Gear Train

Abstract
We have developed a method of performing a multiple degree-of-freedom vibration analysis of a planetary gear train to investigate the effect of mesh phasing on a vibration characteristic of planetary gear train. Using this vibration model, we confirmed that an in-phase planetary gear was useful to reduce transverse and tilting vibration and that a sequentially phased planetary gear was useful to reduce rotational and axial vibration. And furthermore, the mechanism of the sideband phenomenon of planetary gear vibration that often occurs in a planetary gear set was clarified in connection with mesh phase differences. This sideband phenomenon is one in which the (z-1) or (z+1) order component level is higher than the mesh order (z) component level. The notation (z-1) or (z+1) means the mesh order (z) minus or plus one carrier revolution. We verified these simulated results experimentally using automatic transmission.
