Abstract
The Gear Noise Reduction Project Team took two approaches to reduce gear noise of the 5-speed automatic transmission (5AT) for the New Legacy: one approach is the developments of the gear to reduce source of vibration, and the other is the development of a structure to control structure-borne noise. The team consisted of experts from the fields of Research, Engineering, and Manufacturing. The team achieved the targeted level of noise and vibration. An overview of their activities is introduced below.
