Abstract
The design and production system of the standard conical involute gear has been developed. But the profile shifted conical involute gear with deep tooth depth is not studied in detail. This paper propose a new design method based on the theory of non-intersecting bevel gear such as hypoid gear, to decide the mounting dimensions of a pair of profile shifted conical involute gears. The profile shifted conical gears are meshed at the designed pitch point that is not the standard pitch point. After clarifying the basic shape and gear blank dimensions, the limits of profile shift coefficient for the undercut at toe side and the zero top land at heel side are investigated. Lastly, a design discussion for power transmission gear is shown, and the usable ranges of the gear dimensions are obtained.
