Abstract
The novel mechanism CVT (Shaft Drive CVT, S-CVT) was developed by the authors. To improve the efficiency of Shaft Drive CVT, the backup rollers mechanism was devised. This enlarges transmitted torque by getting backup disks to contribute power transmission without increasing amount of loss torque. The result of theoretical calculation shows the improvement of the power-transmitted efficiency up to 91.8%. The effect of backup rollers was confirmed by the experiment. In case of uniform ratio and high ratio, the experimental result gives good agreement with the calculated result. In case of low ratio, the experimental result did not measure up to the calculated result due to lack of backup roller's rigidity.
