Abstract
This paper discusses a networked manufacturing system using DCOM (Distributed Component Object Model) to provide an easily configurable and rapidly changeable manufacturing environment. A component API (Application Programming Interface) concept is proposed and implemented using DCOM. A networked manufacturing system composed of open-architecture CNCs from different vendors can be quickly constructed and rapidly reconfigured in structure by using prefabricated component API. The experimental result shows effectiveness of the proposed implementation method.
