Collaborative Manufacturing System Design Platform Based On Design Process Model

Abstract

Manufacturing industries are under the pressure to reduce total cost and shorten total lead-time of manufacturing system design, and it is essential to collaborate among engineers in the global distributed environment. We propose the approach and develop the prototype system "Design Agent", which stores the engineering know-how and navigate engineers in the distributed environment. This approach is based on Design Process Model and Manufacturing System Component Library. This paper shows the basic idea to develop the collaborative design support.
