Abstract
This study deals with the automation of polishing process by using of an industrial robot. In general, the polishing process has been performed by handiwork of the skilled worker. However, the environment is extremely inferior, and the automation of polishing is strongly required. As one example of the polishing automation by the robot, this study deals with the impeller consisting of complicated free-form surfaces. And we examine items that should be taken into consideration during the automation of polishing. This paper describes the selection of the polishing tool, the experiment for understanding the characteristic of the tool, and the examination of the polishing path for a complicated free-form surfaces.
