Abstract
In recent years ,there has been an increasing demand utilizing various new design optimization techniques to pursue innovative product design in order to meet more and more complex requests including conflicting ones, such as lighter weight, lower carbon dioxide emission while better comfort and safer product. To respond to these needs, various new optimization techniques have been introduced into MD Nastran. Topography Optimization, which is a special shape optimization technique mainly for increasing the out-of-plane bending or torsional stiffness of shell structure, is one of them. This paper briefly describes this new topography optimization capability in MD Nastran, followed with a few application examples to demonstrate its effectiveness in innovative product design
